India tour of Australia at Adelaide,1st test.
Welcome to our live report for the opening Test from Adelaide as the eagerly anticipated series between Australia and India gets underway. We'll provide analysis, colour, stats and graphics throughout the match.
Shortly after tea, Cheteshwar Pujara went to a 153-ball half-century with a flick off his pads to fine leg. It was a lesson in everything the rest of the top order had failed to heed. There were times when he barely scored - he was stuck on 11 for 29 balls - but having watched team-mates throw their wickets away through a series of headless drives his presence was all that mattered. If a few more of those around him had been willing to bide their time, India may have got through the first session and been far better placed to wear down Australia's attack on a hot day
If India's batsmen fell to the honeytraps of Australia's pacemen and cordon in the morning, the afternoon saw Nathan Lyon doing the tempting. Tim Paine had referred to the looming "chess match" between both sides in terms of attacking spin bowlers in order to press the quicks back into service, and Lyon found himself on the receiving end of a few choice blows from Rohit Sharma in particular - on the way becoming the first bowler in Test history to concede more than 200 sixes.
